Patriot-X

Left alone, Americans, for the most part, get along well with one another. When Politics, Religion and other capitalized pronouns become involved, Americans, like anyone, can become foolish, and even dangerous. Here's how the world appears to someone who is not defined by pop-culture, junk-science categories. (Note: I write for adults. Some language may be unsuitable for children.)

Copulate Shrubbery

NOT an horticultural procedure, by the way.

Let me be the first to cry foul over Mr. Bush's idea for a Constitutional Amendment "defending" traditional definitions of marriage (strictly heterosexual) from ... well, defending it from WHAT? If same-gender marriages are allowed, what happens to heterosexual marriage?

The original intention of the Constitution was to define (specify the limits of) government ... NOT of people. The first amendment begins "Congress shall make no law..." and that's the spirit of the Constitution. It was never intended to limit or define the rights of people ... it lays out the limits of government. An amendment limiting "gay" marriage is diametircally opposed to the purpose of the document itself.

Besides all of that, as a recovering religious-aholic, there are two distinct "institutions" of marriage ... religious and legal/civil/statutory. Most religion forbids same-gender sex, let alone marriage, and the right of religious officials not to condone or facilitate a religious/church union should be preserved, but marriages issued by the state have NOTHING to do with religious unions. A civil union is a contract between a couple and the state "authorizing/licensing" the union. A religious union is between a couple and their deities.

Separation of church and state is too often misunderstood, but in this context it should be adhered to strongly. Changing the Constitution to impose one religion's morality on others (except in regard to life-and-death issues) is morally reprehensible.

Non-violent tyranny is tyranny nonetheless. I submit that Mr. Bush is a "kinder, gentler" tyrant. I also submit that Kerry and Edwards are really no better.

When John Wilkes-Booth shot Lincoln he was reported to exclaim, "Sic semper tyrannus!" Meaning "Thus ever to tyrants." That motto became the slogan of American special forces, interestingly enough.

I do not advocate a violent end of Mr. Bush or the tyrannical rule of our corrupt government system ... but I'm looking for a tea party. When will Americans discover and admit that the current configuration is so riddled with corrupt files and virii that it is crashing our lives ... and that we need to re-boot from the original Operating System?
